I’m sure you are all suffering from a Harlem Shake hangover this week, so I have decided to take this week’s Web Weekly away from YouTube and back into the days before internet memes (although there is some similarities to certain fads). Welcome to late 19th century/early 20th century Russia when it was being ruled by the House of Romanov. The following pictures feature Tsar Nicholas II and friends, including his mother Empress Maria Feodorovna, fooling around for the camera. Quite a far cry from the royal portraits we’re used to seeing, and it is, to quote Janis Ian from Mean Girls, almost “like seeing a dog walk on its hind legs”.
Unfortunately I could not find a definite source for the above images as they have been posted multiple times by many, the inherent curse of the internet seemingly. The exact date they were taken is a mystery also. However, you can view the full set here.
