It is thanks to performance poetry organisation Button Poetry that many performers of the spoken word are being heard. However this week is no rap battle, it is a performance by poet Neil Hilborn from the individual finals of the 2013 Rustbelt Regional Poetry Slam. The poem, titled “OCD”, truly showcases just how powerful the spoken and written word can be. I challenge you to listen to this piece and not feel an overwhelming sense of sadness as Hilborn recounts a tale of dealing with OCD and lost love. If you are interested in reading some of his other works, his book is available here. You can also find some of his pieces on his Tumblr here.
