You all know by now that my favourite hotel in the world is the Savoy, London. I have written previous posts about the history and culture of this establishment. Did you know that the hotel has named it’s newest restaurant after Kaspar, the lucky feline? Kaspar’s Seafood Bar and Grill is located in place of the River Room. It has stunning views over the embankment. Kaspar’s opened in May 2013, and since then has built on The Savoy’s legacy of bringing high culture to London.
Kaspar’s have hit upon a fantastic idea with their latest creation. The literary lunches at Kaspar’s are a combination of two of my favourite things, books and food. Here you can spend a luxurious afternoon dining on fine food and drink while a selected author reads from their work. The author in question is also there to discuss their inspiration and methods. It is a fantastic way to meet the author of your favourite book in a relaxed and informal setting, or perhaps even get some tips for your own creation, and maybe one day Kaspar’s will have you back to talk!
The next literary lunch is on October 11th and is being hosted by the wonderful award winning Neil Gaiman. Neil Gaiman is the author of such works as American Gods, Coraline and of course Stardust, which was adapted into a film in 2007 to name but a few (don’t forget about Neverwhere, my favourite – Ed). During the lunch Neil will be reading from his latest work “Fortunately, the Milk”. According to Kaspar’s own website, the lunch although aimed at adults will “highlight the importance of children’s books having a place not only for children but for adults too”.
So if you are a fan of Neil or this literary genre in general, book a table at Kaspar’s for the 11th October 2013. The lunch begins at 12:30 and tickets are £47 each. This includes a sumptuous three course lunch and wine. Booking is essential as it will be incredibly popular. Dress code will be smart casual, it is the Savoy after all!
